In your natal chart, there are four highly sensitive, deeply important points that help define how you show up in key areas of your life and illuminate the path you are likeliest to take.
Hi, Yanin! Great question. Not necessarily. In most house systems, the MC is used as the cusp of the 10th house, so that's correct most of the time. However, in certain house systems - such as either the Whole Sign house system or the Equal Sign house system - the MC can fall inside the 10th house itself, or even in another house, like the 9th or 11th. Confusing, I know! You can play around with different house systems in most online chart calculators to test this out. But no matter which house system you choose to use, the MC will always land in the same sign and on the same degree of that sign. That part never changes. You can also take a look at the handout for this episode where I've included the same chart using two different house systems (Placidus vs. Whole Sign). In the Placidus version on page 1, you'll see that the MC forms the 10th house cusp. In the second version on page 2 that uses whole signs, the MC is in the 11th house. But in both cases, the MC is at 2 degrees Virgo. (Also, if you already downloaded the handout, please go back now and download it again - I discovered that the chart on the first page was actually the wrong one and not the Placidus chart I had intended. I just fixed it. Sorry about that!).
Wow! Thank you, so interesting...! This makes me wonder what would make one choose one or another house system! Astrology is so fascinating... Thank you for all the information you share :)
People have a number of different reasons for choosing one house system or another. They all work, and each one has different advantages ... again, like choosing a different lens, or filter, on a camera. Usually people find one they just vibe with more. Once you're comfortable with the basics, I suggest trying out a couple of different ones that appeal to you to see what you like best. Sometimes I use different house systems for different things. Like, I love to use Placidus to look at a natal chart for the first time, but find Whole Sign to be really useful for looking at transits and solar returns, etc.
So useful! Thank you so much! I always used Placidus - I've been a beginner astrologer for decades, but now I feel inevitably pulled back to learning astrology at a deeper level and am learning that there are different house systems, I've been introduced to equal system and now to Whole Sign by you in this podcast. So intriguing! Looking forward to all there is to learn!
I also like the Equal House system! I've been experimenting with it more and more lately, and find it to be a nice compromise between Placidus and Whole Sign. It's also very clean to look at.
Hii! There's something I don't understand... isn't MC always between the 9th and 10th house?
